I also didn't like that 1/2 the leg work was on the rubber band at the front of the machine, rubber bands are unnatural and tight and feel strange compared to moving real weight with foot straps.

Instead of a flow we mixed it up today and did 1 minute long holds of yoga poses like chair pose and half moon. We had a Pilates section and used our body weight - it was challenging but not TOO challenging. We had a nice long cool down and stretch section too :)

I thought the class started off slow but it definitely was challenging in the end! I think we wound up to be the perfect mix. Also loved the stretch at the end and the cool towel! I left my yoga mat there (you don’t need one only a towel!) :/ so I’ll have to come back soon to get it!

It was a little higher energy than I’m used to, but not gonna be that person & rate lower just because that’s not my personal motivation level! It was seriously one of the best transverse abdominus & oblique (think nature’s corset & side abdominals) workouts I’ve done. I would just suggest to maybe explain what the transverse abd is to new people as it could be a lot to learn at once ☺️ hope that’s constructive, and thanks for the solid-core!!

For those reading this who aren’t familiar with Bikram, I recommend doing a quick Google search before you go. Bikram consists of the same series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises every time; it doesn’t vary. So, if you’re looking for an easy-peasy yoga session, this probably isn’t it! It WILL challenge you, but that’s exactly what it’s designed to do. Come prepared to sweat, work hard, and be challenged.

I prefer her style of Pilates over many others in the area. It’s a nice mesh of classical and contemporary. It isn’t showy and hard for the sake of being hard. It’s perfect in my opinion. I’ve been attending classes at this studio on and off for years and I love that they are SMALL classes and not a Pilates farm with a million machines. The instructors can actually critique form, offer modifications and suggestions for proper alignment. I’ve been doing reformer Pilates for over 10 years and this is a studio I consistently return to.
